Q.Event West at the Dortmunder U

Inspiring and exciting, our keynote speaker Dr. Markus Reimer opened the Q.Event West at the Dortmunder U yesterday. Thereafter, news about FMEA and cross-company quality management were on the agenda. We were able to sort out and discuss the many new ideas at the exquisite lunch buffet and on the way to the football museum.

Quality at its best!

We experienced our Q.Event West with many quality enthusiasts in a fascinating location. Club by night, event venue by day, “The View” high up in Dortmund's U tower lived up to its name. We were able to enjoy a great view over Dortmund. But there was also a lot to see and, above all, interesting things to hear inside the “View” with its shabby chic style. After all, we had all come there to listen to the promising speakers on the latest quality management topics. And we were not disappointed!

Keynote speaker Dr. Markus Reimer on agility in QM

After the welcome address by Marc Ströter, Head of Babtec's North Office, our keynote speaker Dr. Markus Reimer opened the event with an inspiring presentation on agility in quality management. He presented the current status of the digital revolution in a very reflective and critical manner and recommended that companies act in the spirit of agility, especially in QM.

QM software users have a clear advantage when it comes to changes in FMEA

He was followed by Andreas Aichele from the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation, who explained the upcoming changes to FMEA in detail and with illustrative examples. Aichele sees the harmonization of the AIAG and VDA specifications as a positive streamlining, but he also argued that it will make it more difficult to carry out FMEA solely on the basis of conventional table documents. He believes that users of quality management software have a clear advantage here.

Qube.CHECK in a live test

The afternoon was then dominated by the future communication and networking possibilities in the quality sector. Florian Kondziela and Mark Scharpenack, product managers at Babtec, presented the answer to the current QM challenges: the Q module. Using practical examples, including a live demonstration, they were also able to convince us of the benefits of the Qube.CHECK service. These benefits include, for example, increased efficiency and mobility in incoming goods inspection.

“Quality comes from networking”

Networking across company boundaries was the topic of the presentation “Quality arises from networking - communication and cooperation in new ways” by Babtec experts Lutz Krämer (Head of Products) and Jean Marcel Haupt (Head of Product Management). According to Krämer, the familiar supply chain must now be seen more as a supply network; a supplier is often also in the position of a customer vis-à-vis other companies. According to the Babtec experts, the strength of the Qube lies in cooperation between equal partners. The message of the presentation is easy to see: Networking as well as digitalization are long-term, global trends with a profound effect that challenge our traditional ideas and require us to think beyond previously clearly defined boundaries. Babtec is taking a major step in this direction with its new Qube.SPOT service, which is the result of a joint initiative with the German Society for Quality (DGQ). It provides all companies with a free opportunity to improve internal and cross-company collaboration through quality-focused communication via the cloud and to network with all business partners.

News from BabtecQ

The last presentation of the day was given jointly by three product managers from Babtec: Katrin Stratmann, Florian Linzenbach and Björn Nötzelmann gave us a clear and understandable presentation on what we can expect from the next release of the Babtec.Q software. In addition to the innovations of Release 6.15, the focus was on the integration aspect of the software. The two modules Qualification and Training Management were used as examples to demonstrate how important the cross-module availability of data is for efficient and user-friendly quality management. “Many modules, one workflow”, as Stratmann very aptly characterized the integration, which is one of the core competencies of the software.

Soccer connects – visit to the Dortmund Football Museum

This exciting Q.Event day was rounded off by extensive opportunities for exchange and networking among industry and quality colleagues during the lecture breaks, which were accompanied by exquisite food and outstanding service. It was clear that the feeling of a Babtec family mentioned by Marc Ströter in his welcome address is not just an empty phrase, but a truly lived value of the company and its customers. This great and familiar atmosphere could of course also be felt during our joint visit to the Dortmund Football Museum, where we were able to reminisce about some of our older and more recent soccer experiences and laugh about one or two curiosities from the history of soccer.

We are delighted with this all-round successful Q.Event West, would like to thank all our guests and are already looking forward to a no less exciting event year in 2019!
